Rudolf Rosochacki born 1957 Springs Transvaal
Matriculated at German School Cape Town 1975
After national service in the navy he studied winemaking and viticulture at university of Stellenbosch obtaining a BSc agric degree in 1981.Thereafter joined the family business in textiles,
Always maintaining other interests such as building a sailing boat, sports car, doing figure drawing at Ruth Prowse with David Brown. During a cross Atlantic sailing trip to the Caribbean he discovered his passion for sculpture. Initially using modelling clay and then when ashore back in Cape Town worked with clay and wax ,making clear tinted resin shapes cast in silicone moulds ,teaching himself the processes in the evenings while working as production director in the family business.
In 2007 he moved to his smallholding near Knysna establishing a Macadamia orchard and earthworm business and built a workshop/studio. He relocated his wife and two children to Port Elizabeth end of 2011 where they are happily bedded down with suitable high schools noisy traffic and yapping dogs. During 2012 he made a range of unique Blackwood, Blackwattle and oak stave tables benches and chairs. Since 2013 he’s been sculpting full time and loving it.
He’s done some short courses over the past few years; Jon Edgar and Nick Brooks Dean College England, Chris Smart Wilderness, Spies Groot Brak
He works in various mediums which are then cast in bronze or coldcast aluminium or coldcast marble. He thinks his work must speak for itself.
His works have been exhibited in Cavalli Stellenbosch, G2Art Cape Town, Charles Greig Gallery Johannesburg and at his studio near Knysna
